“Will you tell me more?” asked Goober, now feeling a little better about being a peanut.

The older peanut replied, ”You are a type of plant that has a pod and simple dry fruit within.”

“Some of our cousins are green peas, soy beans and alfalfa. Not a nut among them!”

“Peas?” questioned Goober. “I’m related to peas?”

“Yes,” the older peanut replied. ”You are a plant called a legume. Peas, soybeans and alfalfa are legumes also.”

“This is not good news,” Goober thought to himself. “Peas, soybeans and alfalfa may be useful plants but they don’t have the strength, beauty and popularity of nuts.”

“Everyone loves nuts. I would rather be a nut than a legume.” Goober began wondering how he could become a nut.
