WERE ALL NUTS!

At that moment Goober knew that he wanted to be one of them, a real nut, not just a legume with “nut” as part of his name. “Why can’t I be like them?” he thought, “after all, I have a shell.”

It’s true that his shell was soft, so soft that it could be opened with the squeeze of a hand. A nut, he knew, had to be opened with a nutcracker because of the hard shell. That seemed to be the only major obstacle.

Goober thought about what he had seen. The nuts were very different and exciting while peanuts all looked the same. Peanuts even sounded the same, with their distinct southern drawl. No, he thought, the life of a peanut was not for him. Now, becoming a nut was all Goober could think about.
